A 50 micron water filter is a mechanical filtration element engineered to capture solid particles that are 50 micrometers or larger. Configured as an inside-to-outside flow, single open-ended cartridge with a 6-inch outside diameter, it features pleated polypropylene media that delivers high dirt-holding capacity while handling operating temperatures up to 176°F (80°C).

A 50 micron filter removes coarse suspended particulate, rust flakes, pipe scale, silt, and large sediments commonly found in industrial water treatment, reclaimed water treatment, and cooling tower loops. By trapping these larger contaminants early, the filter prevents clogging in heat exchangers, chillers, and finer filtration stages across mission-critical facilities.

For bottled water production or drinking water purification, sub-micron or fine filtration from 0.5 to 1 micron is standard to catch fine sediment and cysts. Coarser cartridges, such as 50 micron ratings, serve as crucial upstream pre-filters that protect sensitive reverse osmosis membranes and ultrafiltration pretreatment systems from rapid fouling.

The recommended change-out differential pressure for these high-flow cartridges is 30 psi differential. The maximum operating differential pressure is 60 psi (4 bar) at 70°F (21°C), and 35 psi (2.4 bar) at the maximum operating temperature of 176°F (80°C). Facilities can configure single open-ended elements with EPDM, E-FKM, FKM, or Silicone seals.
