Duplex Strainers for Data Center Cooling - Zero-Downtime Filtration

A duplex filter system consists of two parallel filtration housings joined by common inlet and outlet connections and a switching valve. This configuration allows process water, condenser water, or closed-loop cooling fluid to pass through an active chamber while the idle chamber remains depressurized. It provides uninterrupted equipment protection in mission-critical facilities.

To change over a duplex filter, an operator shifts the manual flow diverter handle or valve assembly toward the clean basket chamber. Positive chamber isolation ensures the newly engaged side receives full process flow while sealing off the servicing side. Once isolated and vented, technicians safely remove the housing cover to clean the accumulated debris.

Strainers are offered in 304 stainless steel or 316/316L stainless steel configurations. These heavy-duty fabricated metal housings provide long service life, corrosion resistance, and structural integrity under demanding industrial cooling and water treatment conditions, with pressure ratings extending up to 600 psig depending on the specific model.

Baskets are available in perforated plate, woven mesh-lined, or pleated styles, fabricated from stainless steel. Mesh selections range from 20 to 400 mesh, and perforations span from 1/32 inch up to 3/4 inch, delivering open areas between approximately 20% and 60% based on configuration.

Baskets should be serviced when system monitoring indicates an elevated differential pressure. For heavy-duty models, the recommended cleaning differential pressure is 5 to 10 psi ΔP depending on design configuration, operating before reaching maximum allowable differential thresholds.

Units support piping connections ranging from 1/2 inch up to 24 inches in select models, with compact units available in 3/4 to 4 inches. Connection choices include threaded NPT ports as well as ANSI Class 125/150 or DIN flanged ends.
