Simplex strainers feature a single basket chamber suitable for applications where flow can be temporarily halted for routine cleaning. In contrast, duplex strainers provide a dual-chamber design with a manual diverter valve. This allows continuous fluid flow through one chamber while isolating the other for basket maintenance, ensuring uninterrupted cooling operation in mission-critical facilities.

Strainers and baskets are constructed primarily from 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel, conforming to ASTM material standards such as ASTM A351. Seal options include Buna-N, EPDM, PTFE, and Viton. For mesh filter bags, media selections include nylon, polyester, and polypropylene to handle different cooling tower and process water requirements.

Temporary cone strainers are designed for new piping system commissioning, flushing, hydrostatic testing, and startup protection. Installed conveniently between ANSI 150/300 flat-face flanges, these conical strainers capture construction debris before fluid enters sensitive pumps and heat exchangers. Once commissioning and flushing are complete, the strainers can be removed without major piping alterations.

Operating capabilities vary by product configuration. Eaton simplex and duplex models operate up to 200 psi at temperatures up to 150°F or 200°F. Heavy-duty fabricated simplex and duplex strainers handle up to 600 psig and temperatures up to 500°F. Temporary cone strainers can withstand pressures up to 1,500 psig and temperatures up to 1,000°F.

Strainer baskets are monitored via differential pressure instrumentation. For permanent simplex and duplex strainers, cleaning is recommended at a pressure differential between 5 and 10 psi, or 15 to 20 psi depending on configuration. Maximum operating differential pressure is up to 50 psi. Regular servicing maintains flow capacity and avoids excessive pressure drops across cooling loops.

Products can be supplied to applicable ASTM material standards and ASME B16.5 flanged configurations, with ABS Type Approval available on select models. Quality documentation is available upon request, including dimensional inspection, hydrostatic pressure testing, weld inspection, and material traceability records to meet strict data center construction and operational specifications.
