Cartridge Filters for Data Center Cooling & Water Treatment

In water treatment, a cartridge filter functions as a fine mechanical barrier to clarify process water, treat groundwater, or protect downstream equipment like reverse osmosis membranes. Operating at differential pressures up to 60 psi, these filters capture suspended solids, sediment, and fine particles across cooling systems, reclaimed water operations, and industrial process streams without requiring backwash cycles.

The primary purpose of a cartridge filter is to remove contaminants from liquid flows to protect mechanical equipment, maintain heat exchange efficiency, and preserve system cleanliness. In cooling infrastructure, they prevent debris from fouling heat exchangers, reduce cartridge consumption through high dirt-holding depth media, and ensure consistent fluid flow through critical chillers and cooling loops.

Filter cartridges are available across a flexible rating range of 0.5 to 100 microns. This range allows operators to target fine particulate polishing or general debris filtration depending on system requirements. Units feature single open-ended configurations and inside-to-outside flow patterns designed to retain contaminants securely inside the filter element during operation.

Filter housings are manufactured using 304L stainless steel, 316/L stainless steel, or non-metallic fiberglass options to ensure chemical compatibility and structural integrity. Vessels feature bead-blasted or mill finishes and accommodate multiple seal choices including EPDM, FKM, NBR, and silicone. Configurations support vertical or horizontal mounting with capacities ranging from 1 to 16 cartridges per housing.

High flow cartridges operate at temperatures up to 176°F (80°C) with a maximum differential pressure of 60 psi (4 bar) at 70°F (21°C). At elevated temperatures of 176°F, the differential pressure limit is 35 psi (2.4 bar). The recommended change-out differential pressure is 30 psi. Compatible housings handle fluid temperatures up to 180°F.

Filter cartridges and corresponding housings are available in lengths of 20, 40, 60, and 80 inches. Individual cartridges deliver high flow performance rated up to 800 liters per minute under specific operating conditions, offering approximately 25 square feet of filtration area per 20-inch length. Housings feature inlet and outlet connection options measuring up to 12 inches.
