Flow Indicators for Cooling & Process Piping Systems

While a flow meter quantitatively measures and displays exact fluid velocity or volumetric rates, a flow indicator provides qualitative visual confirmation of flow. A flow indicator allows operators to visually observe liquid movement, clarity, and potential aeration directly through a viewport, serving as a non-invasive, serviceable monitoring tool without requiring electrical power or complex sensor calibration.

Common flow indicator designs include inline sight glasses, tubular models, and viewport fixtures with various connection types. Units can feature weld ends, tri-clamp sanitary clamps, or bevel seat fittings. Depending on operational requirements, they can be configured with borosilicate glass, polycarbonate, or acrylic viewports, paired with durable gaskets such as Buna-N, EPDM, FKM, PTFE, or silicone.

Flow indicators are engineered with multiple connection options to suit diverse piping configurations. Depending on your system design, you can select weld ends, tri-clamp connections, or bevel seat fittings. These versatile connection options allow secure integration into standard utility lines, sanitary process piping, and cooling equipment across line sizes spanning 1/2 inch to 8 inches.

The flow indicator bodies are constructed from durable 304 or 316L stainless steel to withstand demanding operating environments. To ensure fluid compatibility across chemical processing, chilled water, and sanitary applications, gaskets are available in Buna-N, EPDM, FKM, PTFE, and silicone. Surface-finish verification and material certifications are also available upon request.

Depending on your specific configuration, connection type, and gasket selection, these flow indicators support working pressures up to 145 psi. They can operate at maximum working temperatures up to 250°F (121°C). Flow coefficients range from Cv 10 to 800, ensuring minimal restriction across cooling water, pump, and heat exchanger systems.

These indicators comply with ASTM, ASME, FDA, and 3-A sanitary standards. They are suitable for hygienic applications, including food and beverage processing, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical systems. Units offer smooth surface finishes such as 30RA ID/OD, 20RA MP ID, and 15RA EP ID, with optional pressure testing and dimensional inspections to verify performance compliance.
