Sea Water Strainer Filters for Coastal Data Center Cooling

Coastal data centers utilizing raw water or seawater cooling require strainers to protect critical heat exchangers, condenser circuits, and pumps from macro-fouling and particulate. Strainers remove debris before water reaches chillers or plate heat exchangers, preventing thermal fouling, pressure drops, and unexpected facility downtime while supporting continuous heat rejection.

Simplex strainers contain a single basket and require process shutdown or line isolation for cleaning. Duplex strainers feature dual chambers with a diverter valve, allowing flow to switch seamlessly between baskets. This design enables routine basket maintenance and inspection while process flow continues uninterrupted, making duplex units ideal for mission-critical cooling.

Housing materials include 304 and 316/316L stainless steel, as well as non-metallic fiberglass options on select filter housings. Stainless steel grades 304 and 316 provide durability and corrosion resistance in raw water, seawater cooling systems, process loops, and demanding industrial fluid environments.

Strainer baskets offer perforation sizes from 1/32 inch to 3/4 inch and woven wire mesh liners ranging from 20 to 400 mesh. This allows operators to select the exact level of mechanical protection required, ranging from coarse debris removal to fine particulate filtration.

Strainer baskets should be inspected and cleaned when system pressure-drop instrumentation indicates an increased differential pressure. For industrial basket strainers, servicing is typically recommended when differential pressure reaches 5 to 10 psi across the housing, preventing restricted flow and protecting downstream pumps.

Housings and strainers are available with threaded NPT or flanged connections, including ANSI Class 125, 150, and 300 ratings as well as DIN standards. Select vessels comply with ASME B16.5, ASME Section VIII Division 1, and CE/PED standards, supported by material traceability documentation.
