8-Inch Duplex Basket Strainer for Data Center Cooling Loops

Strainers are manufactured in a wide range of standard pipeline diameters to match system flow rates. Available housing sizes range from 1/2 inch up to 24 inches, accommodating small auxiliary lines as well as large-diameter cooling mains. Basket perforation options range from 1/32 inch to 3/4 inch, with woven wire mesh liners available from 20 to 400 mesh.

Duplex strainers capture airborne particulate, scale, and pipe debris in closed-loop, chilled water, and condenser circuits before contaminants reach sensitive heat exchangers and pumps. Because data centers demand continuous uptime, the dual-chamber configuration enables full basket inspection and cleaning without stopping cooling water circulation, preventing thermal excursions and unexpected facility downtime.

Duplex strainers feature heavy-duty 316 stainless steel housing and 316 stainless steel baskets for corrosion resistance. Internal baskets can be configured as perforated plate, woven mesh-lined, or pleated elements. Available seal and gasket materials include Buna-N, EPDM, graphite, PTFE, and Viton to match system fluid compatibility and operating temperatures.

Housing connection options include flanged configurations conforming to ASME B16.5 standards as well as NPT threaded connections for applicable sizes. For chamber access and basket servicing, units offer bolted, yoke, or quick-opening closure styles, enabling maintenance personnel to quickly isolate and service an off-line chamber safely while the active side maintains full operating flow.

Baskets should be serviced based on differential pressure readings across the strainer housing. The recommended cleaning differential pressure is 5 to 10 psi change in pressure, depending on specific configuration. The maximum operating differential pressure is up to 50 psi, though regular servicing at lower thresholds ensures efficient flow dynamics and equipment protection.
