Polypropylene Filter Cartridge 5 Micron - Data Center Water Filtration

A 5 micron filter is used to capture fine particulate matter in closed-loop chillers, cooling towers, and pre-filtration stages. Within data center facilities, it protects heat exchangers and cooling components from particulate build-up. It is also commonly employed as pre-filtration for reverse osmosis systems, reclaimed water processing, and industrial manufacturing process water treatment to prevent downstream equipment clogging.

These high-flow filter cartridges utilize an inside-to-outside flow direction. This design traps particulate contaminants on the interior of the element, preventing captured debris from re-entering the clean process water during change-outs. It also supports consistent fluid distribution through the pleated polypropylene depth media, allowing the filter to handle demanding continuous flow conditions in data center chilled water systems.

The recommended change-out differential pressure is 30 psi differential. Monitoring differential pressure across the housing ensures cartridges are serviced before excessive pressure drops restrict water flow to chillers or cooling loops. Operating within this threshold helps avoid unexpected pressure spikes, maintains energy efficiency, and protects mission-critical cooling loops from flow restrictions.

These filter cartridges are constructed with polypropylene filter media, along with a polypropylene cage, core, and end caps for broad chemical compatibility. For sealing into filter housings, configurable seal options include EPDM, E-FKM, FKM, and silicone. The materials comply with FDA 21 CFR contact requirements and European Commission Regulation (EU) 10/2011 standards.

The cartridge has an outside diameter of 152 mm (6 inches) with a single open-ended configuration. It is available in lengths of 20, 40, 60, and 80 inches. This oversized format allows a single element to replace multiple standard 10-inch cartridges, streamlining maintenance and reducing total housing footprint in crowded equipment rooms.

The cartridge operates up to a maximum temperature of 176°F (80°C). The maximum operating differential pressure is 60 psi (4 bar) at 70°F (21°C), and 35 psi (2.4 bar) at the elevated temperature of 176°F (80°C). Adhering to these operating parameters ensures structural integrity and dependable filtration during heavy continuous use.
