Strainer Screens & Mesh for Data Center Water Filtration

A strainer serves as an inline mechanical filtration device designed to remove unwanted solid particles, debris, and contaminants from fluid streams. By intercepting particulates before they travel through closed-loop or open cooling systems, strainers prevent pipeline clogging, mitigate fouling, and protect critical downstream assets like cooling towers, chillers, and pumps against premature mechanical wear, unexpected downtime, and costly equipment damage.

Basket strainers are manufactured across a wide spectrum of standard pipe diameters to fit industrial piping systems. Our standard basket and cone strainers accommodate nominal pipe sizes ranging from 2" to 24". Basket lengths vary from 4" to 36" depending on flow requirements, housing dimensions, and piping configurations, ensuring adequate open filtration area and efficient fluid flow across diverse installations.

Our strainer screens and baskets are manufactured from 316 stainless steel to ensure high mechanical strength, chemical compatibility, and resistance to corrosion in process and cooling water applications. The screens feature perforated plate, woven wire mesh, expanded metal, or mesh-lined configurations. Metallic materials can be supplied in compliance with applicable ASTM material standards with inspection documentation available upon request.

Temporary cone strainers are designed specifically for initial equipment commissioning, piping flushing, hydrostatic testing, and system startup. Installed between pipe flanges, they capture construction debris, scale, and foreign matter before systems enter standard operation. Once pre-commissioning cleanup or blowdown is finished, cone strainers can be removed, whereas permanent basket strainers remain in place for ongoing continuous equipment and pipeline protection.

Operational capabilities depend on specific product configurations. Permanent basket strainers support operating pressures up to 600 PSIG and operating temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). For severe service and high-pressure commissioning, temporary cone strainers withstand up to 1,500 PSIG and operating temperatures reaching 1,000°F (538°C). Both designs tolerate maximum operating differential pressures up to 50 psi (3.4 bar).

Regular monitoring of differential pressure across the strainer housing indicates when particulate buildup requires servicing. A differential pressure of 15 to 20 psi ΔP (1.0 to 1.4 bar) is the recommended threshold for cleaning reusable basket elements or replacing temporary cone strainers. Exceeding recommended differential thresholds risks restricting fluid flow to mission-critical chillers and cooling loops.
